Administration in HaridwarHaridwar was formed into a district on December 28, 1988 and was a part of Saharanpur Division of Uttar Pradesh before it was included in Uttarakhand, the newly formed state.
The District headquarters is located at Roshanabad, about 12 kilometers from the railway station. Other means of transport are an efficient bus service and the easily available tempo (three wheeler or vikram) services.

Nagar Nigam HaridwarHaridwar itself comes under a municipal committee called the Nagar Nigam Haridwar. It is one of the oldest municipalities. It had been established in 1868. The current areas of jurisdiction of the Nagar Nigam are spread over 12.3 square kilometers. This is inclusive of not only just the extent of the city but also the areas dotting the peripheral limits of the city.
The municipal corporation is responsible for extending all forms of civic services to its 1.75 lac citizens in Hardwar city. Among the various services being provided for the city there are cleanliness, street lighting, solid waste management, bio-medical waste, maintenance of gardens, dividers etc besides removal of encroachments, removal of stray cattle, management of community halls, parking lots , development works, storm water and waste water drainage.
The Nagar Nigam is also responsible for the collection of revenue from various resources like advertisements, sale of land, licenses as well as levy of house tax and sundry octroy.
