Bilkeshwar Mahadev Temple in HaridwarSo much is the belief of the people in Lord Shiva, wherever you go, you find a place dedicated to the God. The Bilkeshwar Mahadev Temple is yet another place which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. As the story told by the board situated outside the temple, Parvati appeased Lord Shiva under the Bilva tree, hence the name of the temple. The God, pleased with the prayers of Parvati, blessed her and agreed to take her as his wife. Henceforth, the temple came into existence.
The ancient temple is very popular among the local crowd. The place is quite remote, and you will have to go uphill to visit the shrine.
It is a small temple which, along with the normal shiva linga, houses a shiva linga and nandi made out of stone. The place also houses small temples of the Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, Mahadev and Mata Rani.
It is a tradition to offer Bilwa leaves to Lord Shiva and to do abhishek of the shiva linga with the water of River Ganga.
The road to the temple also has a Hanuman temple before the Bilkeshwar temple. The temple has emerged as a favourite weekend tourist spot owing to its location on the uphill.
